Megali Ammos

This is considered the main beach of Mykonos Town, as it is located just a 10-minute walk away and the access is very easy. It is sunbed & umbrella-free, as usually it is “whipped” by the strong northern winds. Its main characteristic is a huge flat rock lying in the sea just a few steps from the shore, which makes getting in the water quite challenging, but at the same time is very cool for exploring with your mask, as is all the seabed here. If you find yourself at Megali Ammos, you will often meet windsurfers and horseback riding lovers, as well as residents of the neighbouring hotels, who weren’t in the mood to move away for the day. After your swim and sunbathing, you can enjoy delicious traditional Greek dishes at the Joanna’s Nicos Place Taverna, located literally on the sand and offering an unchanged by time authentic Greek dining experience since the ‘70s it first started operating here.
