Saint John, or more adequately Aghios Ioannis, beach is a relatively small but amazingly beautiful sandy cove, lying just next to Ornos. This is where the famous ‘80s movie Shirley Valentine was shot and it constitutes the perfect choice for families or couples, looking for a laid-back all-day experience, somewhat detached from the high-glam factor, present at most of the other cosmopolitan beaches on the island. Its golden sand and emerald shallow waters make it ideal for children, while it enjoys all the comforts and amenities needed for a carefree day at the beach, such as sunbeds, umbrellas, traditional taverns etc. It is an absolute “must” for windy summer days on the island, as the famous “meltemia” (strong Greek summer winds) have quite a hard time getting their way on this well-sheltered coast. The ancient Delos view from here is quite amazing and the small, picturesque, homonym Chapple at the one end of the beach makes this quite the spot for enamoured couples looking to build some extra romantic summer memories at sunset. Parking can turn out quite tough during peak season, but the special ramp for people with disabilities is one thing surely worth mentioning. Hippie Fish and Beefbar on the Coast are two excellent dining options on the spot.
Firstly born in 2005 in Monte Carlo by the one and only Riccardo Giraudi, the much-celebrated Beefbar brand has spread its wings reaching the most elegant destinations in the world, including Hong Kong, Cannes, Dubai and Mexico. Of course, the prestigious culinary Mykonos scene could not be deprived of the amazing dining experience of Beefbar, which is provided to the eclectic crowd of the famous Cycladic Island on the stunning beach of Aghios Ioannis, in the premises of the luxurious Bill & Coo Coast Hotel. The day-to-night meat restaurant-bar “with a twist” serves a wide selection of the finest quality meat cuts in many different versions, ranging from utterly raw to superbly grilled, as well as dishes of contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, fresh fish caught by local fishermen straight from the Aegean Sea and unexpected delicacies with a Greek flair, such as the famous Kobe Gyros (the only one you will find across the globe!). Creative and bubbly cocktails, an outstanding wine list and a very cool vibe, powered by the house DJ set, complete this magnificent, on-the-beach experience.
